Japan Retrospective: Meeting the locals!

It’s the end of my seventh day here in Kyoto. I spent the better part of my day up at Kobe Bay before stopping off at Osaka in the evening for some shopping. If there’s one thing I can say about Osaka, it’s a lot brighter and a lot busier than Kyoto!

I apologize for the lack of posts while I’ve been here. I want to be writing more, but as most nights I’ve been getting back to the inn usually around 9pm or later, I’ve not really had the time for my usual style of post. This night isn’t really all that different, but I wanted to carry on with my retrospective of the week’s events before I forget anything important. So lets continue where we left off shall we? Japan Retrospective: Settling In

Hold on to your hats folks, because I’ve made a ground-breaking discovery that will likely blow your mind! Snow is a colder and prettier version of rain!

Yes indeed, three days into my holiday here in Japan and it’s been snowing all day long. It may surprise you to know that I have no prior memories of experiencing snow first-hand, as the last time I would have done so would be when I was a toddler back in England. Counting down to Japan!

Just ten days til I leave for Japan and my sense of excitement continues to grow! I’ve been pouring over a number of web resources and travel guides, printing out all kinds of maps and making notes so I know the best ways to travel around to get to the hot spots.

It’s gonna be a bit scary for the first week, since I’ll be on my own and I only know bits and pieces of the language. I’m hoping I’ll be over the worst of my culture shock after my first couple of days. I’m making sure to do plenty of research before-hand so I know what I’m doing and don’t freak out. With the amount of sights I’ve made plans to see, I should be roaming around Kyoto quite freely. Read the rest of this entry »
