Big Changes Are Coming!

Big Changes

So I ended up giving up on posting my Sven Plays stuff here since it became increasingly obvious that it was more effective to announce them on twitter, and I’ve now managed to entirely automate that process. Remembering and taking the time to post them here for pretty much zero returns just didn’t seem worth it, and this is supposed to be a blog after all. If there’s nothing but videos on my pages, people will probably miss the odd occasion I actually write stuff, so I decided to stop posting them here.

So you might be wondering what I’ve been up to lately, Sven Plays aside. There’s been some really cool stuff happening with Starbound behind the scenes, largely relating to the structure of the player’s progression. The team collectively has been focusing on that aspect while Tiy’s been working hard to get our office in London all set up. A number of the team, myself included, have been making the necessary preparations to head over and join him. Unfortunately this has taken a bit of time with all our American associates needing to get their visas sorted and I’m waiting for my British passport to be processed.

None the less, it’s tremendously exciting because most of us should hopefully be in our new office by the time May swings by, and I for one am really looking forward to being able to work in a shared space with everyone else at long last. Read the rest of this entry »

Kintamani: I just wanted to share the view!

Kintamani Panorama

I took this photo in the Kintamani area of Bali, where you can see the still-active volcano Mount Batur. Creating this panorama involved manually stitching together six images and doing everything I could to eliminate the seams. There are programs you can use for quick panorama creations, but I find there are usually still some seams and there’s a certain satisfaction in doing it yourself. The view was spectacular and I felt a cropped photo simply wouldn’t do it justice. I think the results speak for themselves.

Soaking in Kyoto!

It’s day ten here in Kyoto, four days since typing my last blog entry on this ancient computer at the Econo-Inn. I’ve spent the last couple of days doing a lot of walking and exploring, and given that my checklist of places to visit is getting quite short, I’ve opted to make this a day to catch up on my writing. I’ll probably go out to the Ninja Cafe in Sanjo later on tonight, but I figured I should get at least one more day’s account written. So let’s continue on shall we? Read the rest of this entry »

Kicking back in Kyoto!

Back in Kyoto at last!

It’s my sixth day here in Japan, with ten more before I come home. The cooler days and occasional wet weather have slowed the opening of the cherry blossoms a little, but it has been forecast that from the 9th of April onwards they should be blossoming in full. As a result I’ve mostly favored visiting places that aren’t famous for being prime Hanami spots and have been enjoying relaxed strolls around the streets. I’ve been taking rough notes on my activities for each each day so I can hopefully keep up with writing about them this time (regular computer access allowing). Here’s the rundown on my first two days in Japan!

It’s time to go!

Tokyo at it's finest!

Only a few hours now until I depart for Japan’s shores once more! I’m feeling well-prepared and am very much looking forward to seeing the cherry blossoms in full bloom. I’m not sure how often I will be accessing the internet while I’m over there, but there’s a good chance I will be making an occasional update, so do check back soon. It’s finally time! Here I come Japan!
